Homeopathy Revisited 1

Homeopathy Revisited 1

In striving towards a universal perspective on healing and medicine, one that transcends any one geographical location or cultural period, I have conscientiously studied and researched traditional European and Asian medical systems (Indian, Tibetan and Chinese), Anthroposophic Medicine, and, as much as my time and energy permit, kept up to date on the latest developments in the field of Mind-Body-Medicine. Naturally I have synthesized the wisdom and knowledge thus derived in my evolving clinical practice.

These studies, inner research, and practical experience with patients have yielded wisdom-filled fruit I feel duty-bound to share. Much of what I am going to write about homeopathy, I have said before — privately in a clinical setting and sometimes publicly — over the last 30 years. Nevertheless, in the face of the unfolding social challenges, I feel compelled to speak more candidly in an authoritative voice.

Since each of us, society, and the natural world are always in motion and involved in processes of evolution and devolution, knowledge unfolds against the backdrop of an objective Reality beyond the breadth and depth of our developing consciousness—yesterday’s, today’s, and tomorrow’s.

Many, many individuals and societies have lost their sense of higher purpose and navigate life without a reliable moral compass. They are incarcerated behind walls built up out of individual and societal egotism and selfishness. If this trend continues, we will suffer increasingly dire consequences. We will be forced to learn through suffering, much of which is still avoidable.

To the exact degree they were grounded in eternal truths and the realities of their time and place, spiritual traditions — with their religious, scientific and artistic components — educated their followers in best practices for a healthy, fulfilling, socially useful life, one lived in harmony with cosmic, human and telluric beings, forces and substances.

  • To what degree has this been tragically lost in the last century or two, and must now be reinstated?
  • What new traditions should we be establishing, based on true knowledge of spiritual and material realities, as far as we can ascertain them, that address human need and aspirations in the near and more distant futures?

In my view, the only solution is to work to harmonize relationships among various aspects of our whole selves, in our families, circle of friends, professional environments, and larger communities. We will want our relationships to become progressively inclusive, embracing more and more of our whole selves and of the realms in which they exist. In our thinking and feeling, we will want to include more in the “us” and less in the “them”, to move beyond warring factionalism that destroys the health and sanity of individuals, prevents healthy social progress, and devastates the myriad lives making up the natural world.

Progressive holistic medicine seeks to address the whole person—body, mind, and spirit. Ideally, such an approach allows for the identification and treatment of the underlying causes of psychological and physical illness, as well as single or complex symptoms. In this way, it contributes to the healing and transformation not only of individuals, but also of societies and of the natural world.

My voice is one among many calling for radical reform in the way medicine is thought about, practiced and taught.

Chronic and terminal diseases visit more people at younger ages than ever before, while healthcare systems are collapsing under the weight of exploding demand and operational costs,

The socio-economic dimension to healthcare delivery cries out for a strategic paradigm shift and systemic transformation.

The need: Increasing numbers of people, in countries poor to rich, are receiving no or inadequate patient-oriented, full-spectrum medical treatment.

The forces of opposition: Unfortunately, profiteering oligarchs, the financial-industrial complex, and pharmaceutical and medical device corporations have been developing increasingly sophistocated strategies to maximize profit while minimizing responsibilty. In this way, they are generating trillions of U.S. dollars in annual profits with “sickcare”.

Handsomely paid lobbyists for these profiteering oligarchs, the financial-industrial complex, and pharmaceutical and medical device corporations exert unimaginable pressure on governments and transnational organizations to promote their agenda by adopting guidelines and ratifying laws written by industry and often approved without conscientious review by policy decision-makers.

Too many government officials buckle under the pressure. Too many politicians, who are seeking reelection or highly paid corporate positions when they leave the government sector, have no scruples when they enrich themselves and further their careers at the expense of the public good.

— Friedrich Schiller, Arzt, Philosoph, Dichter und Dramaturg (1759-1805)

Based on spiritual principles and his clairvoyant research, the philosopher and natural scientist Dr. Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) taught the importance of acknowledging, understanding and working skillfully with all three aspects of a human being — spirit, soul, and body. He also clearly delineated the ideas and principles needed to create a healthy social order. Lastly, he left us free to choose whether we recognize the need to experiment practically with the esoteric truths he generously offered to a world in extreme need of redemptive solutions.

“‘The tragedy of materialism is that it does not comprehend matter.’ These grave words were once uttered by Dr. Steiner, and they made an indelible impression on me. Materialism, which is only concerned with matter, is unable to comprehend matter. What is matter? Matter is spirit that has become visible, condensed, and materialism cannot believe in spirit. So it cannot believe in matter either. — Lili Kolisko, Natura, eine Zeitschrift zur Erweiterung der Heilkunst nach geisteswissenschaftlicher Menschenkunde, Juli 1926, Heft 1

Before contemporary natural science popularized the concept of nanoparticles, it was more difficult to “sell” the idea of homeopathy to patients, as a safe and effective medicine with potentially substantial healing benefits. However, it has recently become easier for questioning people to venture beyond the restictive thought patterns of a materialistic belief system in order to embrace wider, deeper and more Reality-based concepts.

Homeopathy once enjoyed wide acceptance among medical institutions, healthcare professionals and patients, before a concerted, well-funded campaign to discredit natural medicine, including homeopathy, began at the beginning of the 20th century.

For example, let us consider the book, published in 1979 by Dr. E. Richard Brown (1942-2012), entitled Rockefeller Medicine Men : Medicine and Capitalism in America.

  • What educative value does this text have? — “Brown documents the story of how a powerful professional elite gained virtual hegemony in the Western theatre of healing by effectively taking control of the ethos and practice of Western medicine.” (See, for example, the Goodreads review of this work, published by Rockefeller University: E. Richard Brown. Rockefeller medicine men: medicine and capitalism in America.).

Since the 19th century, homeopathy has been seen as posing an “ideological and financial threat” to the allopathic medical establishment. Because of its effectiveness, its popularity has been the basis for this envy and enmity.

The relationship between Dr. Hahnemann and homeopathy with conventional medicine initially began on good terms. Christoph Wilhelm Hufeland, MD (1762-1836), Germany’s most renowned and respected physician of his time, was as famous as Goethe and Schiller in the early 19th century. As the editor of Germany’s leading medical journal, <<Journal der Praktischen Arznei und Wundarzneikunde>>, Hufeland published some of Hahnemann’s writings and held him in high regard.

In 1832, Hahnemann was even granted honorary membership in the Medical Society of the County of New York, as described by Kaufman in Homeopathy in America, page 32. However, a few years later, the society rescinded his membership when they determined that homeopathy’s growth posed an “ideological and financial threat”. These perceived threats intensified the contentious relationship between the two systems of medicine.

— Dana Ullman, Rockefeller, the Flexner Report, and the American Medical Association: The Contentious Relationship Between Conventional Medicine and Homeopathy in America.

Leading up to today, innumerable research studies, carried out over decades according to generally accepted scientific procedures, have been purposely ignored by those continuing to perpetuate the myth that there is no scientific basis for the therapeutic effectiveness of homeopathic medicine. The truth of this can STILL be established by reviewing the philosophical and scientific papers STILL available that drive home this very point.

Just be careful about the sources you consult and any hidden agendas they may be serving, as it is now possible to enlist AI as well as human authors to generate a vast amount of mis- and disinformation to undermine acceptance of homeopathy by the medical community and general public.

Let us also call to mind all those honest, highly credentialed research scientists and medical personal who have been disappeared from professional journals, institutional websites, and search engines because their research and findings contradicted official narratives. Whom do such repression initiatives serve when alternative “evidence-based” points-of-view are hidden to uphold the credibility of ignorant, purposely false and/or misleading official narratives?

Truth is not something to be begged for—it is something to be discovered…. The truth of any system should be self-evident in its results.

— Dr. Jayesh Shah, M.D ( Hom), Mumbai, India, Miracles of Homeopathy

Since it was first introduced by Dr. Samuel Hahneman (1755–1843) in the late 18th century, homeopathy has often proved effective, IN PRACTICE, where allopathic medicines had failed to provide relief or cure. Further, homeopathic medicines continue to offer a cost-effective, non-toxic alternative to the synthetic medicines produced by the pharmaceutical industry, with their many documented and undocumented injurious “side effects”.

Your ability to think for yourself and make informed decisions based on reliable evidence has been undermined by a system created and maintained to maximize the wealth, power and influence of a select few. As a consequence, untold billions of people over several generations have been misled, suffered needlessly, and sometimes died.

Each of us is presented with the challenge to identify reliable sources of information and then think through the implications of that knowledge before we come to any conclusions about homeopathy, or any other form of complementary and alternative medicine. It takes work, but this is certainly preferable to being manipulated and controlled counter to one’s true best interests.
